New MacBook Pro Case Design Revealed

AppleInsider has revealed what is said to be the next major re-design of the MacBook Pro. The image of a case was originally published by a Chinese blog last Saturday but its reliability was questioned.

AppleInsider is now confirming that the photo “appears to be a dated prototype”.

The new casing for the MacBook Pro is said to be more tapered at the edges, similar to that of the MacBook Air. Also visible in the leaked image is a rectangular recess on the bottom casing. This is said to be the latch that will release the notebook’s long and narrow battery cover.

AppleInsider does not divulge when it expects the new look MacBook Pros to ship but does note that Apple could include some “additional surprises”.

Rogers Offers New, Cheaper Data Plan

The official carrier of the iPhone 3G in Canada, Rogers has today announced a special promotion ahead of the iPhones launch this Friday.

Effective July 11, and as a limited time promotional offer for customers who activate by August 31 on a three year contract, a data-only offering of 6GB of data for $30 per month is being made available that can be added to any in-market voice plan. For example, with 6GB of data, iPhone 3G users can visit 35,952 web pages, or send and receive 157,286 emails, or watch 6,292 minutes of YouTube videos each and every month.

Rogers stores in Canada will open at 8AM on July 11th for the iPhone 3G launch.

Mossberg, Baig and Pogue Review iPhone 3G

As with last year, Walt Mossberg, Ed Baig and David Pogue have published there reviews of the new iPhone.

Walt Mossberg - Wall Street Journal

• “I’ve been testing the iPhone 3G for a couple of weeks, and have found that it mostly keeps its promises.”
• “doing email and surfing the Internet typically was between three and five times as fast using AT&T’s 3G network”
• ” I found it [iPhone 3G] to be a more capable version of an already excellent device.”
• “iPhone 3G’s battery was drained much more quickly in a typical day of use than the battery on the original iPhone, due to the higher power demands of 3G networks. This is an especially significant problem because, unlike most other smart phones, the iPhone has a sealed battery that can’t be replaced with a spare.”
• “I found the speaker was much louder, for music and for the speakerphone. But the new phone produced an echo when used with the built-in Bluetooth system in my car.”
