The Functions and benefits of the DLT tape drive

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008 55 views

In the DLT tape drive the connection is made by the processor along with the SCSI-interface and the communication is done with the outside world through the “Data interface”. The incoming data is converted to SCSI-bit stream by the Pentium processor, and then the DLT tape drive records it in the “native format”.
The DLT tape drive has the technology and is designed to support the different interfaces of single & multi channel. Both the digital and analogue interfaces are supported by the DLT tape drive. So even in the initial stage of data collection, the DLT tape drive provides the compatibility. Therefore, the DLT drive solves the issue of compatibility. The data recorded in the SCSI-format makes the integration easy and therefore, it can be used like the other devices that are SCSI compatible. The connection is made directly by the analysis computer with the external SCSI-port of the unit itself. The data either digital or analogue can be the output through the “data interface”.

In the DLT drive from all the sub-assemblies that are unwanted, the peripheral strips off. In the front top of the tape recorder’s case is a closed compartment where the bare bones are mounted. The weight & size has been reduced because the drop down door has been doubled as “Display Panel” & “Integral Control”. At the back of the DLT recorder case is a separate compartment that is used for mounting the “electronic modules”. The modules that are active & installed determine the function of the DLT tape recorder.

Cool air is drawn from the back of the unit by the fan that is mounted to “central-bulkhead” of the drive. This cool air flows over the electronic modules and then it moves over the “Peltier device”. This device is attached at the base of DLT drive’s compartment. Below the control panel is “mounted grill” from where the cool air is exhausted out. Power supply (line-tolerant) of high grade is used in the DLT tape drive. The data interface has a large buffer for both input & output. During the recording both the discontinuous & continuous data rates from the real world are decoupled by the large buffer. This large buffer also allows the “analysis device” to move the data during the replay.

This overall interaction is very complex and the Pentium controls this overall interaction. The DLT tape drive has powerful features of “correction strategy” and “input to output error detection”. In order to take maximum advantage from the rewrite and read after write features of the tape drive, the drive selects the transfer speed of either 12 MB/second or 40 MB/second. It is made sure that the recorded data is free from errors.

The RAM (non volatile) holds the “control programs” and the standard “RS 232 port” can be used to modify and update the control programs. MS terminal can be used to fit the modem with in the tape drive for finding the faults or the “remote control”.

For the protection of the weakest links of the system, the tape drive is thermally & physically isolated and then it is fitted to the “control system” of the temperature.
The DLT tape drive also has the advanced feature of “Heat-dissipation system”.
The other components like the cables, connectors are selected that are robust and are able to deliver the best results in the extreme conditions. The DLT recorders are also used with the applications of “analogue & digital acquisition”. The digitization of the analogue data is done on eight or the sixteen bit sampling. In parallel, both the digital & analogue modules can be used.

New Forum Launched for Open Discussion of Virtualization - VirtualizationChat.com!

Monday, September 29th, 2008 194 views

Virtualization is one of the most proven technologies that is swiftly transforming the landscape of IT as well as fundamentally changing the manner in which people compute it. This is basically a technology that benefits computer users especially Mac enthusiasts, government organizations, commercial businesses, IT professionals as well as laymen; in an effective way. The fact of the matter is that virtualization technologies such as VMWare, Microsoft’s Hyper-V, and 3tera’s, AppLogic, help their clients use less hardware and resources, by creating “Virtual” servers, and infrastructures.

The biggest advantage attached with the virtualization technologies is that it helps in saving energy, money as well as time. Following are presented some of the valuable benefits attached with the process of virtualization:

o Infrastructure optimization and server consolidation: the first and foremost benefit connected with the process of virtualization is that it helps in achieving the optimum utilization of the resources. As a matter of fact, you can pool the resources of infrastructure as well as break the legacy of the model of one application to a single server.
o Cot reduction of the physical infrastructure: with the virtualization forums, it becomes easy for you to reduce the IT hardware as well as number of servers present in the data center. This greatly leads to reduction in the costs of IT especially in the areas of power, real estate as well as cooling requirements.
o Improved operational responsiveness and flexibility: this process of virtualization also offer innovative ways of managing the IT infrastructure. Along with this, this process is also commonly known to help the IT administrators in spending lees time on virtually all the repetitive tasks like configuration, maintenance, provisioning and monitoring.
o Improved continuity of business and increased availability of application: the process of virtualization also helps in eliminating the planned downtime as well as in recovering rapidly from the unplanned outages. The fact of the matter is that this software provides the capability of securing the backup as well as in migration of the whole virtual environment. The added advantage attached with this process is that you do not come across any kind of interruption in the services.
o Improved desktop security and manageability: manage, deploy as well as monitor the desktop environments in order to access the remotely or locally; the network connection.

Vmware approach in the case of virtualization
Vmware helps to insert a very thin layer of software directly upon the hardware of computers. This creates the virtual server which can operate any OS independent of eachother. As a matter of fact you could run a windows, and linux virtual machine parallel with eachother, on the same piece of physical hardware.

Companies like 3Tera.com offer Applogic, their Grid Operating System, which gives a virtual environment across several “Grid” servers. Imagine having an entire N-tier architecture from firewall, load balancer, web servers, database servers, and NAS storage server, all tied together using one system with a GUI interface for managing all the virtual systems within the Virtual Datacenter. The technology has many benefits, one of them being built in redundancy of your data across several “nodes” or physical servers.

All of these topics and many more are being discussed at www.virtualizationchat.com.

5 Traffic Building Techniques Based On John Reeces Traffic Secrets

Sunday, September 28th, 2008 90 views

This article is based on the traffic secrets 2 course by John Reece. The first of the internet marketing strategies John advocates is competitive research. He states that the web is the greatest research tool ever invented. With a few simple searches you can find out what your competitors are selling, how they′re marketing their products and services, the amount they′re charging, where they′re advertising, what their main search terms are, who ranks in the first page for these search terms etc etc

The incredible amount of research you can do feeds into the next on of John’s internet marketing strategies called piggy backing. This is simply using the detailed competitive research to find the top products and services, how they’re being marketed and where they’re getting their visitors from. The concept being you can easily copy what they’re doing and save yourself the expnse of experimenting with internet marketing strategies that aren′t going to work.

The next one of John’s internet marketing strategies is the good old 80/20 rule. This is no great insight as every entrepreneur advocates this rule, however, there’s literally thousands of methods to generate traffic and its so easy to get suckered into something that will squander your time and energy. john reeces traffic secrets is great because it teaches you how to research and piggy back the 80/20 internet marketing strategies that apply to your market.

The next of John’s internet marketing strategies is to implement some of these 80/20 internet marketing strategies and analyse the results. John’s experience is that its far better to improve on one of the internet marketing strategies that is working than to try something new and unproven.

The final traffic building principle is all about building friendships. In the last few years, the web has developed into a much more social place and John feels that building friendships and giving your visitors multiple ways of communicating and interacting with you will become more and more significant.
