Change in the Workplace Stress Management

Monday, May 11th, 2009 66 views

Workplace Stress Management can already be quite a task just to maintain employee productivity, efficiency as well as satisfaction. Nothing can be more stressful for managers than to handle stress brought about by workplace change. Change can affect the workplace in many ways, with the negative side of it always bringing along considerable stress to some.

Workplace change is usually inevitable in the business world. Changes in the economy and the competitiveness between businesses are some of the causes of changes in the workplace when most may least expect it. Businesses always run the risk of having to stage lay-offs, personnel downsizing and even bankruptcy. And when these changes happen, the employees of the affected businesses go through quite a stressful situation having to deal with unemployment and an uncertain future. The management even has the more stressful task to inform employees about it.

It is important for management to try to break the news of a workplace change in a less abrupt manner as possible. Communication would be very important in such circumstances. Efficientand timely communication may aid affected employees better understand and accept such upsetting and stressful news.

One of the best ways to convey sweeping changes in the workplace is to engage key communicators to bring the news to the employees. While it may sound logical to have the CEO speak to the entire group of working personnel in a company-wide meeting, he or she alone may not be able to give the details more effectively on all levels. The CEO of the company alone may not be able to satisfy employee questions and concerns.

Having other people such as supervisors or team leaders to handle the job of communicating any workplace change would surely be more efficient and effective. By having the company’s front-line supervisors and maybe team leaders address employees under them and answer their questions, this helps communicating change more efficiently accessible to more employees and may take less time to make them understand and accept the unfortunate news.

But aside from having several people handling the stressful news of change to company staff. It is also as important for the management to create an effective message. And since companies are comprised of different departments and levels, the message of change should be designed to cater to the information needed of these different levels. In short, the message should cater and fit to a specific audience in order to be more effective and hence avoid possible confusion as well as additional stress.

Efficient communication of change in the workplace means that information required by different levels of the company should be satisfied. Others may stop at citing the reasons why change is a good idea for the company. Other companies may only try to communicate only what the changes affect the corporate level.

Disregard for providing information that really matter to employees, such as how the change may affect their career in the company, can really add considerable stress and many sleepless nights to many people. It certainly is not a good Manage Stress for a company that is going through changes.

Easily Build a Budgeting Plan

Monday, May 11th, 2009 92 views

Do you ever wish you could make more money or better afford things you really want in life? If you devise a good of budgeting plan, you can better manage your money. With better money management skills, you can save more money and have more money to afford the things you really want.

In order to devise a budgeting plan, you need to begin by recording all of your fixed expenses for the month. This includes your rent or mortgage, any kind of insurance, phone, cable, Internet access, trash, etc. Fixed expenses stay the same month in and month out.

Once you have all your fixed expenses, add them up. You end up at the base of the amount you need to spend each month. Now you need to add up all your variable expenses. You can’t add them up perfectly accurately because they change from month to month, you can start by shutting them down and they include water, gas, electricity, food, entertainment, etc.

When you add together your fixed expenses and variable expenses you end up with your estimated expenses for the month. This is how much money you need to live for a month. Now you need to add together your income. Obviously, if you just have one job and one salary, there isn’t anything to add together, but if you have a second job or other sources of income such as interest income or investment income, you need to add all of this together.

Now you need to look at your expenses and income. Compare them together to see which is bigger. Is the income larger? If so, you should have savings. If you don’t, you probably estimated income and/or expenses wrong. Adjust them accordingly. If your expenses larger? If so, you are probably going into debt. This is not good and is the point of budgeting. If you’re going into debt we can help you fix it.

The next thing you need to figure out is the amount you want to save and invest. This could be saving for an emergency fund, retirement, college funds, etc. Figure out a general number and add it to your estimated expenses for the month. If your income is not large enough for this number, you need to cut down on your expenses.

Start by cutting the fixed expenses. If you can negotiate down any fixed expenses with those who purchase them from, this could be a guaranteed savings. Next, cut down on unnecessary expenses. Cut out extras that you really don’t need and try to save money on food, entertainment, etc.

Keep adjusting your expenses and numbers until your income equals your expenses plus savings needs. Once you have this, just folly but you are not. I will be honest and say that it’s probably the hardest part, but it’s the most beneficial also.
