Twitter takes the basic What are you doing? information bar from Facebook and uses it as the heart of a site dedicated to sharing real time information, links, pictures, data etc with your Followers.

Effectively, Twitter is a huge database of people whore all interested in different topics. If you regularly Tweet about a specific topic, then you Tweets will be read by people who are also interested in that topic. If they like what you write then they will follow you. Over time you can build up a big catalogue of followers on Twitter which can then be converted into customers.

How does it work?

Step one is to set up your own free Twitter account, you can see an example of an account at twitter.com/Deeho

In order for people whore interested in your chosen subject to find you, it is wise to choose a username that is related to that topic.

You will then need to add some more information to your account such as some personal details, your website address and a small biography. This biography is searchable within Twitter so you should make it keyword rich in order for people to find you.

Tweeting itself is so simple it doesnt even need explaining. You have 140 characters to use to write your tweet about what youre doing or thinking about at that particular moment.

You can make a comment, or as most people do, you can use the 140 characters as a compelling headline with a link to your website or blog, where your Story is written in more detail. This is how most people use Twitter, to drive traffic to their main site, or to a recent news story they have written.

This is the most basic form of Twitter use. You can also use the site twitterfeed.com to automatically post every entry you make to your normal blog, onto your Twitter page within minutes.

Another option is to use the site http://bit.ly as many Twitter users do to not only shorten to URL of your blog, but also to post your entries onto Twitter at the same time, saving you having to paste everything into Twitter again.
