Hello again! Today we wanted to go over a useful tool that you can use whenever you need to find out who owns a particular phone number. With just a phone number in hand, you can discover somebody’s full name and address along with other details such as their background information.
Of course, cell phone numbers and unlisted numbers present a difficulty here. They are not listed in the phone book. This does not, however mean they can’t be looked up. Though not in the public domain like a land line number, there is a way of finding out.
There are companies out there who put together databases of phone numbers, along with information about the number holders. They then put searchable directories together from this information which are available for people to query. These companies pay for access to unlisted numbers and cell phone records, which is how they are able to make this information available.
These searches can be performed over the web on these directories. Known as “reverse phone directories” since they allow for lookup by number rather than by name, one just enters the number and allows the directory’s search engine to handle the rest. The results, hopefully information on the number holder, will be displayed.

These services are not free, but they are not terribly expensive and if they can get you the information you′re seeking, they are arguably well worth the cost. Many of these directories just charge a one time fee for access to their directory - which is the way to go if you will need to perform searches fairly often. Several different reasons lead people to use these sort of services. Checking up on a spouse who is exhibiting suspicious behavior to see who has been calling them, or putting a stop to frequent prank calls are two common uses for these services. Any time you want to find out about someone, but have only a number to work from, these directories come in handy.
Before you take the plunge and hand over money to one of these sites though, there is one simple and free thing you can do. Perform a Google search on the number in question: be sure to use quotation marks around the number, and search it.
All you have to do is go to Google and punch in the phone number into the search box. You will want to use the following format: “555-555-5555″ and make sure you use the quotation marks. Hit the search button and then take a look at the search results that appear.
If this number can be found on the internet, Google will find it for you. Phone numbers sometimes end up on websites, in advertisements and so on. In these cases, you may just be able to find these numbers online.
You never know - if you do get a result from Google, the page may contain the information you want. If you strike out, then it’s time for the paid directories.
I′m always impressed with how much information you can find out about someone when all you have is their phone number. By using a reverse phone directory you get to feel like a detective right from your own home!
